Many of us cannot live without our smartphones. We use them to stay in touch with the world, read the news, find out what the weather will be like and accompany just about everything we do each day. If you are like most people, then you probably spend a lot of time on your smartphone, and you want it to work properly all the time. A lot of these tips will also work for fridge cleaning, so keep that in mind as you read.

The phone works so much better when the screen is clean and clear, and you are less likely to have to replace the phone anytime soon if you keep it clean of grime and dirt. We are going to show you how you can have a clean smartphone with just a few steps and also how you can keep it cleaner for longer.

Clean without Damage

If you aren’t cleaning your phone properly, you can easily damage it. The most important tip we can give you about cleaning your phone is to never use liquid if you can help it. There will be some instances where you won’t have any other choice but to use a liquid of some sort to get the phone clean, but when that happens, you need to use liquid sparingly and avoid using any commercial cleaning agents. Liquid has the potential to permanently damage your smartphone and the delicate components inside of it.

You also want to avoid using abrasive cleaning tools, such as steel scrubbing pads or rough cloths. These can scratch your screen and cause surface damage to the phone. If you scrub too hard with any kind of cleaning tool, you can damage the sensitive buttons of your phone or he touchscreen’s components. Smartphones are incredibly delicate, so you need to take every precaution to ensure that yours is kept in one piece.

You also want to avoid cleaning your smartphone a hairdryer. If water does get into your phone, you need to take the phone apart and let it airdry. Using a hair dryer would certainly speed up the process, but it can also warp and burn the delicate components, and you want to let the phone dry out naturally.

You always want to turn the phone off completely when you clean it. This will minimize the potential damage and ensure that you aren’t accidently pressing buttons or accessing your phone as you clean it. Do not turn it back on until you are done cleaning and the phone is completely dry.

How to Clean

Now that you know what not to do, we want to show you the steps you need to take to clean your phone effectively and safely. You should use approved cleaning wipes for your phone, which can be found in most phone stores and department stores next to the phones. These are gentle and non-abrasive, and they clean your phone effectively. They use little to no liquid as well. When you use cleaning wipes, be sure to clean in one smooth motion, rather than scrubbing at the screen or surface of the phone. You always want to be extra gentle with the screen and the buttons, as they are the most delicate parts.

Be sure to only use designated phone cleaning wipes and not baby wipes, washcloths, paper towels or something else that may contain too much liquid or be too rough on your phone. If you use the wrong cleaning tool, you can end up scratching your screen.

Once you wipe the screen, it may be slightly damp. You can either let it air dry or use a dry microfiber cloth to remove the remaining liquid.

To clean the interior of the phone, where all the sensitive components are, you can use a can of compressed air. This is something you can find in most electronics and phone stores. When you spray the air into your phone, be sure to spray at an angle to reduce the risk of damage. One or two short puffs should be enough to clean the dust out of your phone.

Protect Against Dirt and Grime

If you want to keep your phone cleaner and safer, then you should use a screen protector whenever possible. This covers the screen and adheres easily, but you can take it off whenever you like as well. You should buy a few of them so that when one becomes damaged or loose, you can simply put another one on.

You should also buy a cover for your phone. Go with a tough cover that can protect your phone from falling damage and keep out spills and dust. You can get a decent one for very cheap, and it can potentially save your phone from being completely wrecked or irreparably damaged.

Handling Water Damage

One of the worst things that can happen to your phone is that is gets submerged into water. You may be able to repair the damage on our own, though. You can use uncooked rice and fill a bowl with it, then place your phone inside the bowl. Leave it there for a few hours and see if that draws the water out. Small packs of silica gel work great as well, and in some cases they are your best option.

Remember to never use a hair dryer or anything else that produces a lot of heat to dry up the water. You can end up causing more damage than the water did. There is no guarantee that you will be able to have working phone after you dry up water inside the phone. You may be left with a useless block of plastic and circuits, but the rice/silica drying method is worth a try. You can also simply open the phone up and let it dry out to see if that takes care of the problem. In either case, let the phone dry for a few hours before attempting to turn it back on.

Hopefully, these tips and guidelines will help you as you try to maintain your phone and keep it clean and operational.
