The trick to cleaning your glass stovetop is to do it without causing any scratches. In most other regards, the process is very similar to cleaning a metal stovetop. We’ll go through the steps you need to take to clean this kind of stovetop to keep it sanitary and looking great and to ensure that it lasts you for a long time.
First of all, you want to ensure that your stovetop is not hot when you clean it. You don’t want to burn yourself. Let it cool sufficiently before you try to clean it. If there is something stuck to the stovetop that you want to remove when the stove is in use or still warm, then you can use a spatula or some other kitchen utensil to remove it.
You also want to be careful about the kind of cleaners that you use. You don’t need anything heavy duty. Glass stovetops are usually pretty simple to clean, and any heavy chemicals will leave behind residue that gets into the air and causes unpleasant reactions once you start to use the stove.
Only use gentle cleaning pads. Do not use anything rough or metal to clean your stovetop. Only scrub hard enough to remove stuck on food and other contaminants and not hard enough to cause scratches.
You should use a rag, microfiber cloth or soft sponge to clean the stovetop. These tools are all gentle enough that they should not cause scratches.
Your cleaning chemicals can be vinegar and water or baking soda and water. The water helps to dilute the cleaning agent, and these cleaning agents are safe and natural and won’t cause toxic fumes or damage to your stovetop.
To clean, simply wipe down the stovetop to get rid of the bigger, loose particles. Then spray the surface with your cleaning agent. Let that sit for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the water and cleaning chemicals to sink in and loosen up grease and food particles.
Afterwards, you can wipe the stovetop down and see how it looks. If there is still some accumulation on your stovetop, then you can repeat the process as necessary. If the grease is not coming off very easily, you can use a light, non-toxic degreaser.
For trouble areas where the encrusted food particles will not come off, you will need to use a razor blade. You may want to try an apartment cleaning company like Diamond Cleaning if the methods we have given you are too tough or are not getting through the grime. When using a razor, however, be careful about how you hold the razor blade, as you are not trying to etch the stove. You want to hold the razor at a very slight angle, letting it lie almost flat. Then scrape off the burn marks and encrusted food carefully until the stove is clean.
Your stovetop should look clear and clean now. Keep in mind that the more often you clean your stovetop, the easier it will be to clean next time. If you follow these steps, then your stovetop should last a long time and not become easily scratched.
