To keep you from wasting time when you vacuum or getting frustrated with the results, we have put together a list of tips to help you out. Some of these are very obvious, but others are less so, and they should all prevent you from being dissatisfied with your vacuuming when you are finished.

Common Tips

Let’s get the obvious ones out of the way first. We’ll just give these in rapid succession, as there isn’t much need to go into detail:
• Clean up the floor before you vacuum
• Clean under and behind larger items
• Plug the vacuum into a central outlet to reduce walking and your workload
• Make sure the vacuum cleaner’s bag has sufficient space and the vacuum attachments are clean before vacuuming
• Vacuum some areas multiple times to get them clean

Prevent Excess Dirt from Coming Inside

If you spend a long time vacuuming, then you either have a very big house or you don’t do enough to keep your home clean. Or you may just not have a regular vacuuming schedule, but that’s for another tip.

Anyway, there are things you can do to keep your home cleaner, such as not wearing shoes in the house, using doormats to wipe off extra dirt and dust and just cleaning regularly. If you have rules about what can be worn in the house, then let visitors know, either by telling them or by placing a sign at the entrance.

Vacuum on a Schedule

The more often you vacuum, the less time it will take you to vacuum. You should have a set day each week or every couple weeks set aside for vacuuming, then just stick to that schedule. If you do that, then you will have less work each week, and it won’t seem like such an overwhelming task every time you go to vacuum. You can also pick certain days of the week to vacuum each room of the house and split up your work to make it more bearable.

Move Furniture Occasionally

You don’t necessarily need to vacuum under all your furniture each time you vacuum, but it is a good idea to get in a thorough vacuuming every so often. For most houses, vacuuming under the furniture once a month is a good schedule for them. Just be sure that you do get under each and every thing in your house on a semi-regular basis.

Treat Your Carpet

The vacuum cleaner is not something you can use to get out spots or stains from the carpet. You don’t even want to try to get rid of gum and other sticky stuff with the vacuum. You will just make a bigger mess or get frustrated with how the vacuum isn’t doing what you want. Instead, treat the carpet with a spot removal spray before you vacuum. This will clean up the carpet and make it easer to see what you actually need to vacuum when it is time.
