When you have guests staying at your house, and you can offer them a room to themselves, that can be an opportunity for you to make them feel special and welcome. Whether it is family staying over for the holidays or a friend who just needs a few days to get back on their feet, you want them to feel at home and to be glad they chose your house to stay at instead of somewhere else.
You can improve their stay with you by making up the guest room in a way that is immediately inviting and comfortable for them. One of the first things you should do is neaten the room. Make sure there is no trash, dust, grime or unpleasant smells for them to deal with. Take time before they come to clean up the room and make it really shine. Even if you don’t have a lot to offer them, a clean room is always appreciated.

You should also give your guest the option to help him or herself. Leave some mints or other sweets on the nightstand, put a few spare towels in the room, or place something in the room that your guest can use whenever they want without having to bother you for it. If the guest room has its own bathroom, be sure to stock up extra toilet paper and other supplies so that they don’t have to come ask for them. Some people get embarrassed when asking for toiletries, so think ahead to ensure they won’t have to.
If there is anything in the guest room that works a little differently than what people are used to, then just stick a simple, neat sign explaining how to use it. For instance, if the faucet needs to be fiddled with before it can turn on or provide hot water, place a note by the sink to let your guest know. That way, when they are taking a shower or going through their morning routine, they won’t have to come to you to get a refresher on how to use it.

You can also give your guest something to do. Stock the room with a variety of books, or if you know what hobbies they enjoy, you can cater to those. For instance, if you have a guest who likes to draw, then you can place some drawing materials in their room to keep them from becoming bored.

You also want to supply clean linens for the room. Make sure you clean all the bedding before your guest arrives so that the sheets smell fresh and there is no questionable substance sin their bed. If they are staying for very long, you should keep cleaning the linens for them to keep their bed smelling fresh and feeling pleasant. You should also keep fresh towels and toiletries stocked so that they can be comfortable as they go through their daily routines.
