When you dust, does it take you a long time and do you often come back to the area you dusted and still see dust residue left behind? If that’s the case, then you may not be dusting as efficiently as you could be. We have put together a list of things that are going to seem like common sense to cleaning experts, but that many people could benefit from to help them dust faster and more effectively.

Use the Right Tools

Do you use a damp cloth to do your dusting? The vast majority of people who dust in their home do use a cloth, since they already have cloths on hand and they don’t have to buy any special dusting tools. They may even use a broom to get those hard to reach places.
However, it’s more effective and simply safer to use the proper dusting tools. If you use a feather duster to clean your house, then you can clean so much faster. You might be amazed at how much easier it is to quickly clean tables, couches, curtains and window sills with a feather duster than with a cloth. When using a cloth, you have to keep rinsing it out and taking your time to ensure you got everything.

If you use an extendable duster to handle the ceiling and high corners, then you can more easily get rid of cobwebs and other types of dirt and dust that is normally tough to get to. You will also be using a tool hat is gentler on your home than a broom, and that will ensure you have fewer repairs to make over time.

Dust Systematically

Are you the kind of person who just dusts as they see something to clean up? If that’s the case, then you could be missing dusty areas that other people are going to see. It’s better to dust one room at a time and to move around the room in an orderly fashion. You can move clockwise or counterclockwise around the room and ensure that everything in your path is dusted as you go. This ensures that you don’t miss anything and keeps you focused on a single room at time so that you don’t feel overwhelmed.

Prevent Dust from Entering Your House

If you want to cut down on the amount of dust you have to deal with, then you need to do a few things to reduce the dust entering your house. One of the best ways to do that is to keep the windows closed. Whenever you are not by a window, you can simply close it to keep dust from coming inside.

You also want to change out the air filters on a regular basis. The more often you change those out, the cleaner and more breathable your air will be.

Also make sure that you are not using too much furniture polish. If you overuse it, then that can cause a dusty buildup on your furniture surfaces and give you more work to do.
